According to the Byzantine historian Procopius a part of the Eastgermanic people the Heruls/Eruli left the Danubian region after a defeat 508-509 AD and settled at the Scandinavian Peninsula.

These feared warriors played a major role as mercenaries in the Roman army, but they have never been identified in Scandinavia. Did they just disappear without a trace?

The old web site is substituted by an index to a main web article and a detailed article in pdf. The pdf article with notes and references is still under construction (but recommended).
